    Story Behind the Song
    Step Forward:

    This song is a combination of mis. parts I have come up with over the past 2 years. Many influences and emotions are strewn in the music of this song... this song is my personal favorite hard song on the new album... I wanted to continue in the trend of "Black Out" from the first CD to end the album with a bang. - Adam

    This is my favorite song on the album. The lyrics and their arrangement owe their inspiration to my favorite band, Bad Religion. As with some of our previous songs, this one is about the majority of mankinds' ridiculous need for routine. However, I think this one speaks the message more directly. Society kind of programs everyone to start out with this "need for the Status Quo", but certain individuals gradually escape this prison and question the norm. This song is about that struggle and trying to get others to "step forward". -Pete

    Lyrics
    In my dull, complacent mind
    Elusive phantoms lurk and hide
    Congregating to overtake
    the chain of thought which leads my ways...

    Challenging me...to stray far from the beaten path ahead;
    not to ignore the mass decay that man has bred;
    to stifle any flimsy qualms or inner dread..
    ...and take action...
    Or do we turn our thoughts to cynical dismay
    against this Earth we will so readily betray
    and blindly repeat all our ancestors' mistakes
    ...or step forward?

    Slowly changing day by day
    This mundane routine has led me astray.
    I take in my surroundings here
    The message that they send is all too clear.

    And as I sit here in this darkened cage,
    the shadows wail with a channeled rage.
    I break free and shout out my words,
    No longer feeble cries, I will be heard...

    Challenging you...to stray far from the beaten path ahead;
    not to ignore the mass decay that man has bred;
    to stifle all your flimsy qualms and inner dread...
    ...and take action...
    Or will you turn your thoughts to cynical dismay
    against this Earth you have so readily betrayed
    and blindly clone all of your ancestors' mistakes
    ...or will you step forward?

    You'll see the chains are ripped away.
    Cuts through the fog, blows back the haze.
    Will you sit still, swallow your words?
    Or will you step forward?

    Breaking down the walls, making our escape
    From this whimsical existance, our impending fate.
    Don't believe that what you want is what you need.
    You can't dicate your actions from anothers' creed.

    Like a withered photograph that fades with time,
    Will these words lie dormant, deep within your mind?
    Be that as it may, the phantoms' calls converge,
    Shouting out their pleas for you to come step forward!
