    Story Behind the Song
    Nothing Can Replace:

The music for this song started out as part an acoustic demo that I was recording during the winter of 2000... as always some of my best music weather it is happy, sad depressing, or uplifting is inspired by the woman in my life... in this case, this song is the most beatiful piece of music I have ever written and it is the last song that I wrote or ever will write that is musically inspired by this old girlfriend, call it closure if you will... or to put it another way, this song helped me get over the girl I thought I was going to marry and it allowed me to move on with my life... originally called "Twilight" on my acoustic demo, you can find it on my Mourning Star page... follow the links - Adam

When most people first try to analyze 'Nothing Can Replace', they assume it's another love song. (Much as they did with 'Fade Away' on our first album.) That's partially correct, but it's a much more general type of love. It's mostly about staying on track and trying to make it through the rough times that will occur in any relationship. -Pete

    Lyrics
Burdens of the passing years. I see them in your eyes.
They speak with such a soft, gentle tone.
Looking back, can you recall the way you felt for me?
The moment when you first lost control?

And does it plague you like it pains me in the night?
Cuz I've been locked here ever since I lost your light...

Nothing can replace...my dreams of you...
You've kept me safe in such a troubled land.
    I've seen the path...and it's dark ahead...
Follow me. Reach out and take my hand.

Are you still here? Will you be here tomorrow?
    Or were you always here?
Like a face I've never seen, but I have always known.
Like an old friend that I've never met...

And every day it seems you drift further away.
It kills me slowly knowing that we've gone astray...

Nothing can replace...my dreams of you...
You've kept me safe in such a troubled land.
    I've seen the path...and it's dark ahead...
Follow me. Reach out and take my hand.

And every time I see you, it floods my world with light.
    And burns away the pain.
With everything we've been through, doesn't make much sense
    To give up now.

Have everything we need. Only need eachother.
With you I can face anything.
Stay close to me I swear, if we can make it through this
We were truely meant to be...

And now the time has come to put difference aside.
I'll be there to help you when there's nowhere left to hide...

Nothing can replace...my dreams of you...
You've kept me safe in such a troubled land.
    I've seen the path...and it's dark ahead...
Follow me. Reach out and take my hand.
