    Story Behind the Song
Supplying him with a sketchy journal, Nico said of Richard Watts' prospective biography, The Loves and Lies of an Icon, "...It will be half truth, half lies."

'Prometheus Scatters Ashes' holds truth, but is equally symbolic and metaphorical.

It is a love song, and yet a song about human advancement and prophecy. It also touches on an actual visit my manager and I paid to his old college buddy, the publicity director at Arista Records, in NYC ... (*Note the optional verse.)

Clive Davis then towered in an office accessible from a spiral staircase, off the 8th floor, where I was. How I longed to climb those stairs, but did not, *to wit:

"All doors barred shut, no more
Everything is there, she climbs the precious stair . . .
    He waits for you . . . "

(Written well before the visit, I hadn't recognized it as being remotely prophetic ... 'Opportunity knocks - Are you ready?')

    Lyrics
There he was, waiting for you
You had waited for so long
In his mind, a present for you
    In his eyes, a song

    The waters rang like echoes
    Of a past most true
The air was clear, as azure blue

Count on what you can see through . . . Count on what you can see through . . .

    Waters deep cleanse my soul
Knowledge spent on Rock and Roll
These are promises from which we try to escape
Mountains steep, like shadows on an ant’s landscape

You cast down, rise up, there’s more . . .Cast down, rise up, there’s more . . .
    Oh there’s more!

    Prometheus flew by, scattering ashes
Jung and Freud tallied up their losses
Marie Antoinette, you were, so said a would be prophet

We all must rise, we all must rise . . .
    We ALL must rise!

    Optional verse:

All doors barred shut, no more
Everything is there, she climbs the precious stair . . .
He waits for you, he waits for you

Count on what you can see through . . .
    You CAN see through!
