Story Behind the Song
(Words from Yin and Yang) I was sitting at work one day on break, bored as hell. I was listening to the song by mobb deep on "Hell on Earth," when Havok says "Allustrious. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. If you f*ck with us, it's a must we bust, 9 times out of 10, nixxas will get touched." I came up with the idea for a hook saying "Ashes to ashes and dust to dust," but that was it. Then the same day while smoking a blunt with EVIL, we were freestyling over the beat that 8th Wunda had made for us. I just said "Ashes to ashes and dust to dust/ Blunts passing and passing from dutch to dutch, if you high like I'm high, then put your hands up and say what what, what what." And that was it. We changed "hands" to "blunts" later. About two weeks later we all had our lyrics ready, and it was supposed to be the first song with all 5 members of the UVA Side rapping, but MR. Death (Anarchy) said that he had to bounce out of the group because of too many problems at home. So I asked him to just do the hook, seeing how he didn't have any lyrics written. We did a practice version of the song on my 4 track with all 5 of us on it. Then we noticed that the song was about 6 minutes long (we put the hook after every member's verse). It was then decided that we should only do the hook once at the beginning, then let EVIL rap, then me, hook, IZMA, Crisis, scratches, and that's it. Mr. Death was still supposed to do the hook, however on the night of the recording, he didn't show up at the studio. So it was decided that I should do the hook. It took about 5 hours to get everything straight the first night, then about 4 hours the next day. 8th Wunda was VERY patient working with 5 guys all hollering in his ear (me mainly) telling him how to work his magic. But in the end, it came out okay. The most annoying part while recording the song and which took the longest was DJ Havok's scratches. He is a perfectionist. It took about one hour alone just to do the scratches. But they came out clean in the end. Just like the song.
