Story Behind the Song
This song started as a ambient jazz number called 'November 9th 1965' but when we added a new funky beat, it evolved into a hipper-happier tune. Alicia Dara (local Seattle folk/rock artist) came into the recording sessions and laid down a distinctly R&B flavored vocal, turning it into a cross between Prince and Janet Jackson. The jazzy breakdown in the middle of the song is made up of chords my guitar teacher would be proud of.. thanks Hans Fahling! Recorded at Quiddity Studios, Seattle, Wa.
Lyrics
My baby’s got work day worries
So I sing my trouble song
We're gonna drive into the city
And dance together all night long
Maybe I shouldn’t act so crazy
Life has a beat that pulls you in
My Momma said all God’s children
Need their own dancing shoes
Ooh, ooh, ooh, it’s alright
Ooh, ooh if you’ve got a funky record
Well come on now
Spin it again
My baby’s got a brand- new face now
He looks good and satisfied
I’m a fiery downtown angel
In his sweet arms tonight
Tonight there’s a new sensation
We don’t care where we are
We’re gonna fly into the music
We’re gonna climb into the stars
Ooh, ooh, ooh, it’s alright
Ooh, ooh if you’ve got a funky record
Well come on now
Spin it again
You know there’s no- one above you
You know I can’t live alone
Here on earth without your smile
When you look my way
And we dance real close
Closer, closer
My baby’s got no more worries
We dance close and he pulls me in
You gotta learn to call the rhythm
Into your heart, under your skin
Stray dogs they say I’m crazy
You’re a slave to your appetite
I am a fiery downtown angel
In my baby’s arms tonight
