Story Behind the Song
Martin Pomerantz came up with the original idea for this song. Then Ben Martini wrote it. When Ben first gave me the music, I had recently lost my mother and I told him, "Ben, I can't sing this song." But my dear friend, Bennie Martini, who is now 91 years old convinced me that I could. He told me, "Michelle, it's okay. You can still be with your mother in thought." After this conversation, Bennie added the verse.
We recorded several versions of the song. I hope this is the best. There was a very special feeling in the studio the day we recorded. You could feel how moved everyone was, thinking about their mothers. This song is really for every person. It's for those who are mothers, and those who simply have mothers, which is everyone!
Lyrics
Mother's Day comes only once in a year.
And some greet the day with a smile and a tear.
We must not forget, what our mother's went through.
The best she would do, for me and for you.
Let's be with our mother's on Mother's Day. Though she may be many miles away.
All through the years, every day and night,
With you she'd stay, never out of her sight.
So remember all mothers, they never rest.
Bringing up children, they do their best.
Please don't forget that lovely day in May.
Let's be with our mothers, on every Mother's Day.
