Story Behind the Song
I've always thought I should write a traveler type song and recently got motivated to do it. The song itself only took about 3 hours to write. The recording and mixing took a bit longer. Working one or two hours a day over a period of six or seven weeks.
Lyrics
Chorus:
I'll be on my way, I'm leaving here today.
If I hang around I know, she won't want to let me go.
I don't want that so I'll pack my bags, and
I'll be on my way.
1. I wandered into Little Rock to see what I could see.
I saw a gal standing there as cute as she could be.
Long blonde hair, big blue eyes, she smiled and stared at me.
I've seen that look enough to know when it's time to leave.
2. I went down to San Antone, stopped to have a beer.
The local sheriff picked me up, said you can't drink here.
Public parks ain't public bars and hauled me off to jail.
Now I'm broke 'cause every cent went to pay my bail.
3. As I go from place to place, go from town to town.
People always ask me son, why don't you settle down.
I say that I'm not ready yet, I can't do that today.
I've got to roam so I pack my bags and I go on my way.
