Fiona Apple will hit me over the head with something, should this become a hit! Judge for yourself. This is a Pop/Blues/Alternative number with lightweight lyrics ... (lightweight, for me, anyway). It includes basic rock instrumentation, along with Don Stapleson on sax, Fred Lieder's cello and Andrew Cann on piano. The guitar riff, by Cris Chillura, has been referred to as his backwards 'Day Tripper' riff. There is also a breathy part, compensating for lack of snares, executed by one Robert (flange it, Eno) Goldstein, formerly with Warner artists, the Urban Verbs! Cheers! ~ Xyra

    Story Behind the Song
When Arista told me to write a hit, I tried. One of their A&R guys had contacted me, after we showcased at the Philadelphia Music Conference (PMC). He said he dug the material, but wanted to hear a 'hit.' This is what I came up with. Maybe some of you will find it enjoyable!

Conversely, and with great anticipation, I look forward to our upcoming 4th release, LIQUID LIGHT, as it is the real 'me' ... and that is what I am supposed to be. (I will not quote Frank Sinatra, albeit I have sung through one of his old tube mics, at Omega Studios.)

    Lyrics
Your love is like a velvet glove
    Give it up
    When you've had enough

    I've had enough shallow promises
    Don't you know
    We're coming to the end?

    It's been a long road
    I've had to know
    How to survive
    When to GO SLOW
    It's been a long road
    I've had to know

    So special
    Were the words in time
Deep promises were laced with wine

    Said you knew me
    On the pavement,
    In the air
But never mind whats real . . .
Let's get down to whats unfair

    Happiness is not
    For the deep who think
    Empty out the vault
    Get some brief relief
    It's been a long road
    I've had to know
    It's been a long road
    I've had to know
    How to survive,
    When to LAY LOW
    It's been a long road
    I've had to know

Slowly, in the face of time
You live your life like Pantomime
    Thought you knew yourself ...
    You were really someone else

    Happiness is not
    For the deep who think
    Empty out the vault
    Get some brief relief
    It's been a long road
    I've had to know

Ourlove is like a sinking ship
Give it up, If the riddle fits

    I've had enough shallow promises
Don't you know were coming to the end?
