#1 in *Experimental Classical* for a more than a week ! First appearing on Xyra & Verborgen's debut CD, 'Where Glass Birds Fly,' this whimsical yet powerful instrumental was written by pianist/guitarist, Andrew Cann, and titled by Xyra. 'Riding the Dragonfly' includes the Spanish guitar of Cris Chillura, cellos by Fred Lieder, drums and percussion by Norm Thorne, and the fretless bass work of Larry Lawrence. The band liked the name of the song so much, Xyra and Andrew decided to name their Indie label after it.

    Story Behind the Song
'Riding the Dragonfly' was inspired by the life of Rebecca Lilly, a young girl who struggled with cancer into her teens. She bravely held on, inspiring those around her ... a sometimes tumultuous journey, as if riding the fragile wings of the dragonfly. The mood of the piece reflects the intensity of her struggle, and eventual defeat. It is a beautiful, intensely building piece, calming to a peaceful resolve.

    :~: A review by an MP3 member...

I have always had a soft spot for the Classical sound, although I couldn't tell you many of the artists other than Chopin or Pachelbel and some Mozart. But when I hear it, I listen. IMO Queen took an interesting
approach to classical or symphonic Rock a time or two and those are some of the songs of theirs I like the best. While this one isn't daring it is appealing. It evokes the classical while putting a twist to it that
may not appeal to the purist, but I think that is a good thing. Music was meant to evolve. Besides, there is always something that endears me to a violin or string sound accompanied by the piano. Nice. Do it again.
