Story Behind the Song
The motivation for this song, was placing the listener in the situation of someone looking as an outsiders perspective of similar complications in Scott's life at the time, but using a female as the subject. He wrote the song to ease his mind...
He wrote the song at home, during a study break at sometime in September 2000. The chord progression he had written earlier that year, when listening to a friend play the opening to another song. He used that progression, added a new melody, then took it in another direction for the chorus and bridge.
During a rehearsal with the band, Lee Wilson added some additional lyrics, as the song sounded too depressing using the same subject time and time again.
The recording took place during January 2001, at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School in Bunbury, Western Australia. After about 3 takes of piano (Scott Bultitude-Paull) and about 5 for the vocals (Lee Wilson), the song was finished. Not perfect, but good enough :)
Lyrics
"No Tomorrow"
Music - Scott Bultitude-Paull
Lyrics - Scott Bultitude-Paull and Lee Wilson
I can see in your eyes
The sky clouds your dreams
Could this really be true
All our tears, they swallow your pride
Why do I feel this way
You always say nothing's wrong
Everyone tries to help you
But you cry that tomorrow's now gone
And you tell us that you're fine
So why are you still dying
Screwed by the light of our day
But you're not yet done lying
Don't lose your love for this life
You'll drown in your own sorrow
Screwed by the sky once again
Why do you say there's no tomorrow?
Pull yourself back now girl
It should have to end our way
Learn how to love again
Stop pretending your soul's in a cage
Don't leave us here
Don't leave this life
Don't fall away
Don't fall from my eyes...
And you tell us that you're fine
So why are you still dying
Screwed by the light of our day
But you're not yet done lying...
Don't lose your love for this life
You'll drown in your own sorrow
Screwed by the sky once again
Why do you say there's no tomorrow?
