Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in a lower key, but thought it sounded better in G so I moved it up. Seems like you see this situation more and more where a woman sticks with her husband just for the money. I wanted to write a about a woman who decided to give up her material things in favor of her soul. Recorded in one night on my BR-8. I'd like to hear a strong, independent female voice on this one. Maybe Faith Hill or Shania.
Lyrics
[verse 1]
Everyone says, "She's so lucky." Everyone says, "She's living the American dream."
But they just don't realize things ain't what they seem.
That mansion gets way too lonely. She smells perfume in his hair.
Says she'll give him one more chance, and then she's out of there.
[chorus 1]
One more night he doesn't come home.
The house is empty, she's all gone.
Taped to the TV, a simple note.
The word "goodbye" that's all she wrote.
[verse 2]
Everyone says, "Why'd she do it?" Everyone says, "Why'd she throw it away?"
But they just don't realize she's better off this way.
Her apartment's no mansion. Her clothes aren't nice as they used to be.
But she sleeps like a baby at night. She's finally found what she needs.
[chorus 2]
She goes where she wants, she does what she likes.
Things have changed now it's her life.
She smiles thinking about that little note.
The word "goodbye" that's all she wrote.
[chorus 3]
One more night he doesn't come home.
The house is empty, she's all gone.
Taped to the TV, a simple note.
The word "goodbye" that's all she wrote.
