" Mockingbirds are the true artists of the bird kingdom. Which is to say, although they're born with a song of their own, an innate riff that happens to be one of the most versatile of all ornithological expressions, mockingbirds aren't content to merely play the hand that is dealt them. Like artists, they are out to rearrange reality. Innovative, willful daring, not bound by the rules to which others may blindly adhere, the mockingbird collects snatches of birdsong from this tree and that field, appropriates them, places them in new and unexpected contexts, recreates the world from the world. For example, a mockingbird in South Carolina was heard to blend the songs of thirty-two different kinds of birds into a ten-minute performance, a virtuoso display that served no practical purpose, falling, therefore, into the realm of pure art. Lyrics
all the words and feelings
never said
you've never heard them
because they're locked up in my head
careful not to show
too much of my dreams
because so many things
are different then they seem
shadow impulse
its precursor deep inside
growing louder
must struggle to keep quiet
do you want to walk away from
that person you've never seen
because so many things
are different then they seem
chorus:
it's finally become apparent
that there's so much left inside
and i don't know if it's conscious
but there's somethings that i hide
and i want you to know there's so
much more to me then i let on
and i feel that you will know this
as soon as i am gone
the rain is falling
and the noise is turned down low
i can barely hear it
but it comes from down below
as i try to walk away
from these things that i deny
i begin to look around
and all i see is lies
the only reason that i never
seem to speak
you pretend to listen
but it doesn't fool me
so i'll just keep on going
just struggling to get by
as i begin to look around
all i see is lies
