    Story Behind the Song
This tune evolved over a period of about a year. It contains sprinklings of bits and pieces of Edward Thomas poetry. Surreal Medieval. I wanted to create visuals without abstractions. Based on the song form of Paul Simon’s, Richard Cory.

    Lyrics
Deep within the wooded glen I chance so far to see
A maiden fair ‘neath powdered mist beholding unto me
She’s eyes as dark as moonless night and hair that silken lay
Black upon her silver gown of handmade gabardine
I take a gentle step toward her luring, distant eyes
And slowly go in fear that I might cause this maiden fright

Faintly stir the trees under the hush of evening skies
The wind a wordless welcome brings this night to she and I
A dream come true reveals to me in midst of icy glow
While winter lace-like blankets fall as kisses on the snow
With tight caress and coupled warmth two embers we shall be
Burning bright into this white laid glen at Athenry

I cast a spell on these young lovers
Who’d bring to kingdoms back together
Keep the world of old anew
For in its darkness I shall rule
While in the glen two fair hearts meet
The sight shall be heavenly sweet
So here’s a spell upon the scene that all will seem as just a dream

While folds of thick white curtains fall upon the wooded glen
My maiden fair obscures from view as dusk to nighttime gives
Alas, she fades, but her dark eyes transfix upon my own
I feel a vestige of our flight together and as one
Though thought remains I take a step and turn upon the snow
My back against the distant glen where dreams like trees had grown
