Story Behind the Song
This song has been in the archives for years. The basic riff and theme to the song was worked out, probably 8 or more years ago. Mark Calvi gets a writing credit here for his 'Star Wars' tag at the end and for helping Zini with the bridge.
At this time in early Squids developement, Calvi was the guitar player for Guy's 'Three Leg Cat'. This band dealt with sarcastic and parody-like tunes. A musical comedy act, if you will.
This one take wonder is a re-make of that classic tune and reveals the jammerific Squids in action, as well as, asks the age old unanswered question:
'Why has there never been a song about the Star Wars Trilogy?'
Lyrics
There's never been a song about the 'Star Wars Trilogy'
Ya never hear anybody singing, 'Princess Lea Organa Solo'
And what about Han Solo, Ya know, he's captain of the 'Millenium'
He says, 'There's nothing wrong.'
But Obi Wan Kenobi, ya, he knows there's trouble on Alderon.
There's never been a ballad about the Jedi.
Ya never hear anybody singing, 'Luke Skywalker'
Here we go.
And what about them 'Droids, Ya?
You never hear, 'R2D2 saved the Universe!'
And what about those furry little Ewoks?
Those little furry samaritains?
You never hear about those guys, ya.
There's never been a ballad about the Jedi.
Ya never hear a song about the 'Star Wars Trilogy'.
'Join me, Luke.
'Together we can rule the galaxy as father and son'
'No!!!!!'
'There is yet Another'
And what about the 'Death Star'
That orbiting Planet of Death?
Surely, Slayer could have covered that one!
Ya never hear a song about the 'Star Wars Trilogy'.
Ya never hear a ballad about the Jedi.
And what about Han Solo?
Used to freight around contribann.
And Obi Wan Kenobi?
He used to be a 'Master of the Force'
He's stronger when he's dead, you know?
There's never been a song about the 'Star Wars Trilogy'.
There's never been a ballad about the Jedi.
[RANTING]
And what about 'Jabba the Hutt'?
With his little freaks,
playing their pianos and their strange alien-stringed instruments?
Surely, they could have put out a couple singles or something,
I could have heard them on the top 10, or anything like that.
I mean 'Star Wars', God damn it,
It's a popular cultural icon, for Christ's sake
You'd think people would be singing about it by now
But, 'No' No.' They're not like that.
They wanna make lots of money, you know what I saying?
But 'Star Wars', Man, you know, come on! It changed the world!
