A haunting and very important song about the conflicts in keeping secrets when a friend is facing abuse. The sweet pain of the Irish fiddle, soulful lyrics and vocals will move the listener to tears.

    Story Behind the Song
A few years ago, a close friend told me that she was physically abused by her boyfriend. She told me not to tell anyone but I feared that if I didn't get help, the abuse might go too far. This song is about loyalty, keeping secrets, and saving lives. I chose to talk to a counselor about my friend and got the confidential help she needed. She left her boyfriend and is alive and well. The girl, Julie, in "I Never Told a Soul", wasn't as lucky. Confidential help and counseling is available to abuse victims. There is always someone available to help and listen. I hope this song encourages people to seek confidential help for abuse. Talking about abuse saves lives.

    Lyrics
    Second grade with Mrs. Miller
In a jar was a caterpillar
One day somebody set it free
I found Julie hidin' in a corner
She was in trouble and I tried to warn her
She said I swear it wasnt me

    Chorus
I said Julie you can trust me
This is something theyll never know
Its our secret, to keep forever
And Ill never tell a soul

She loved Billy I loved Joe
Then one night at the drive-in show
Julie said that Billy went too far
She put my hand on a stack of bibles
And made me swear to God that I was
Not to tell what happened in that car

    Chorus
    Julie lost Billys baby
He was drinkin' a lot the day he
Got mad, she fell to the floor
She told me she lived every day in fear
I could see her fightin' tears
She said I cant tell you anymore
    Chorus
    Julie finally made a decision
She tried to leave now Billys in prison
Guess you could say he set her free
Lookin back at all I knew
If Id found someone to tell it to
Julie might still be here with me but

I said Julie you can trust me
This is something they'll never know
It's our secret, to keep forever
And I'll never tell a soul

And, I never told a soul...
