    Story Behind the Song
There have been two attempts to introduce a poll tax (fixed amount per person) in England.

The first time prompted the peasants revolt in 1389, while the second time led to a bit of a ruck in Trafalger Square in 1990. Both times saw the government back down.

This song was inspired by the experience of the latter event.

    Lyrics
There's a whisper in the air tonight
There's a feeling that the time is right
And your Mum and Dad will wonder what time you're coming home
We could do some dancing here tonight

I couldn't care if they all tripped on their laces
And I couldn't care if they all fell on their faces
Faces in the crowd like you and me

Why don't you talk to me all night
Why don't you talk to me all day
Why don't you smile a while tonight we'll set the town ablaze
Why don't you talk to me all night
Why don't you talk to me all day
Why don't you join with me come run with me tonight
    We'll paint it red

Elvis says he's all tooled up tonight
He's out there on the dance floor alright
He told a lie was crucified
He couldn't live on borrowed time
And he'll be making history tonight

I couldn't care if they say the party's wasted
And I couldn't care if it's not the way it tasted
Tasted like a sweet fresh air to me

Jesus died for Rock 'n Roll and Elvis died to save our souls
And Lenin's sons and daughters sing the red flag once a year
But now the time has come and are they here?
