Story Behind the Song
This is the first song I have recorded
and published. I wrote it in 1995 and it is
one of the few songs that came to me all at
once. Usually I work on a song for weeks,
months or even years. It took two weeks to
record and mix. To get this out before
Easter, there was no time to assemble a band,
so I am playing all of the instruments and
also singing (sorry!). I have to ultimately
give credit and thanks to God for giving me
this song.
Lyrics
Garden of Gethsemene
It was to be a dark and lonely night
He had gone to be alone and pray
He left His friends to guard and to watch
at the gate but they slept
At the Garden of Gethsemene
Would you let me go, would you calm my fears
Would you take me home, would you dry my
tears
He was feeling lonely, lost and deserted
No one seemed to know what He was going
through
He cried out to His Father in hopes
He would see His tears
At the Garden of Gethsemene
Would you let me go, would you set me free
Would you let me go, take this cup from me
He listened for a message from his Father
Silence told him there was no other way
He left and found His friends at the gate
they were still asleep
At the Garden of Gethsemene
Would you let me go, would you set me free
Would you let me go, take this cup from me
Won't you take me home, I'm down on my knees
Still if I must go - I go willingly
Then suddenly a crowd was there upon them
He recognized his friend that led the way
His friend came close and spoke to Him
with a kiss of death
At the Garden of Gethsemene
Would you let me go, would you set me free
Would you let me go, take this cup from me
Won't you take me home, I'm down on my knees
Still if I must go - I go willingly
