This piece will wash over you in a sweeping wave of emotion that carries you away. Like the rest of Catherine Marie Charlton's music, the piece is an improvisation, using mood, musical themes, playing techniques, and rhythms as a frame for the improv. |

Story Behind the Song
The song is a love story, and a daydream about a name for a future daughter.
'The Dreams of Sarah' is one of my (Catherine Marie Charlton) personal favorites. I've played it at every concert since it first premiered in 1992, and it appears on both of my CD's, 'Strange Attractors' and 'Jeweled Rain.' Because the song was already on my first CD, I wasn't sure if I was going to put it on "Jeweled Rain," even though I knew the performance would be very different, by the very nature of the fact that it's an improvisation, and I was 5 years more mature-that maturity would reflect itself in the music. At the end of a 13 hour recording session, when all of the other material for "Jeweled Rain" was complete, I was extremely relieved and excited, and was so overwhelmed with emotion that I decided to record "The Dreams of Sarah." My recording engineers weren't so happy, because they thought it might take another hour or so, but I surprised them (and myself a little bit) and recorded this version in one take.
