Story Behind the Song
The song was inspired by the 11:00 o'clock news seeing all the terrible things people go through knowing that most of them started out with hopes and dreams like all of us but things did'nt go their way. The music was influenced from Steely Dan's "Don't Take Me Alive". I wanted to make a song that had pop sensibility with a jazz/rock foundation. The dark chord structure compliments the message I was trying to convey.
Lyrics
Robbie was nobody's fool, but he didn't know what the hell to do
Went into the store that night, man it was a sorry sight
He drew his gun, but not fast enough, and now he's just a pile of dust
Someone could have set him straight, but not no more cause it's too late
That's too bad, he didn't have to do it
That's too bad, he didn't even know
That's too bad, he didn't want to do it
That's too bad, he didn't have a chance
Amy was a quiet girl, she loved to dance it was her world
She was waiting for the day, when she was able to get away
Her father staggered in one night, her mom was mad there was a fight
The policeman came but way too late, just another tragic fate
That's too bad, she didn't even do it
That's too bad, she didn't even know
That's too bad, she didn't deserve it
That's too bad, she didn't have a chance
Tommy was the family pride, went overseas where he died
The war he fought was never won, they just lost their only son
The papers screamed about victory, there was none that they could see
Someone should have set us straight, too bad for Tommy cause it's too late
That's too bad, he didn't have to do it
That's too bad, he didn't even know
That's too bad, but he was proud to do it
That's too bad, he didn't have a chance
