Have you ever had a lover keep you on a string simply because they knew you cared and would always try to be there? Well folks, this time, I got fed up! Sometimes the best thing you can give a person is the God's Honest Truth and a swift kick to the curb!
CD: Ebony Fay - the debut album - coming soon!
Credits: Writers: Ebony Fay, Ralph Hawkins

    Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in about an hour on the borrowed laptop of a good friend of mine (thank you Charles Henderson!). It was a day when no one was returning my phone calls -- not my homies, not my man, and certainly not the high-profile manager-producers who were supposedly so hyped on my talent. So I was asking myself: "Why do I have to sit up here and wait for these other people?" And that's where the first line came from. I was thinking what a beautiful day it was; much too beautiful to be sitting up waiting for anyone else to give me the go-ahead.

The backgrounds actually took quite a while to record, because I hadn't been in the studio for a little while and Ralph Hawkins wanted a To-the-T, "no-excuses" kind of track that we could allow to just speak for itself. Ralph has worked with major artists ranging from Shanice Wilson to Bette Midler, and so I was also quite nervous about how I would stack up in his mind compared to those folks. But the song itself is truly a labor of love. I believe that the lyrics are clever while still being accessible to the masses. The tone and phrasing of the "ooh-waaah's" actually kind of remind me of Michael Jackson's impeccable backgrounds on his "Off the Wall" album.

    Lyrics
    baby tell me why
tell me why must i be
    sittin' up, crying all alone
    on a friday night
    flippin' thru the channels
    watchin' kobe in the highlights
    you know it ain't right
    you know it ain't right

i wish that you could see
    the way that i'm staring
    at the telephone
    wishing that you really cared
    stressin' cause you ain't confessin'
    all that you been doin'
    never mind
cause boy i see thru it

what kinda fool do you think i am
when will you start learning how to be a man
burying your bone in every hole you see
    wanting to be loved
but you won't get none from me

    no more of your schemes
    plans, lies, innuendo
    no more of my dreams
    tossed out of the window
    found out all about her
    cause it's not just what
    but who you know
    bravo, what a lovely show

oh, tell me why can't you
why can't you just quit this
    frontin' like you're down
when you know you're gonna split
trying to keep a safety net
for when you wanna hit it
    (you know it ain't right)
and you don't know who you're messin' with
