Story Behind the Song
"Cheddar Man" refers to the ancient skeletal remains found in a cave near Cheddar, England. A school teacher, Mr. Targett, currently living in Cheddar has been genetically linked via mitochondrial DNA to these remains. It is currently the tallest family tree known. Will scientists ever find "the" true root of the human evolutionary tree? How would this affect our views, both scientific, social, and religious?
Lyrics
They focus, aim the scope.
On the Targett, begin to hope.
What will change if we find the root?
Should we dare to know the truth?
A chain of mothers links you and me.
Laying claim on the smallest tree.
I am, I am just like you.
One cell, one cell contains us two.
I'm Cheddar Man!
Here I am, stone age man,
Telling you what I can.
Worth more dead than I was alive.
Will you be in 10999995?
Do we grow like branches from a tree?
Or do we flow like rivers to the sea?
