Story Behind the Song
Basically a song about mind-numbing loneliness. I wrote the lyrics on the train one day, pretty much progressing from the image of an abandoned mitten.. Not a very happy song.. Actually had to practice some time for the picking pattern though it's deadly simple.
Working on the song, I also managed to upset a neighbor of mine to the extent where I received an anonymous letter saying basically, shut the **** up, quit singing, you can't sing so why do you try?
Can't argue, but I'm still counting on reaching perfection through practice.. one day.
Lyrics
Like a single red mitten,
half buried in the snow.
Like a 3-legged, stray puppy
when the other dogs go home.
Like being shipwrecked on the ocean
and all you see is the horizon.
Like being stuck inside an airplane
going to the wrong direction.
Like a child alone in a hospital,
while the parents fight in the court.
Like a night alone with your companion,
and she tells you she is bored.
Like the vacation for 2 you won,
that you're spending all alone.
Like a toothless, faceless,
homeless, ageless hobo rolling stone.
So lonely it's not funny anymore,
so lonely that it hurts into the bone,
so lonely that you don't know how to keep on going on.. being alone.
Like it's your birthday and you're sick to death, and nobody even calls.
Like when no one even stops to help,
when the homeless lady falls.
Like a pet thrown out on a christmas day,
'cause a new one has been bought.
Like when the only letter you received
this month wasn't meant for you after all.
Like 50 years of marriage,
and then you have to learn to live alone.
Like when your family surrounds you,
but there's nobody there that you know.
Like an old wooden building
getting swallowed by the concrete.
Like arriving right on time again,
but there's no one for you to meet.
So lonely..
