Story Behind the Song
The story of how music and motion can move men.
This song was inspired by watching the cool
cowboys turn into two stepin' fools once they
found the right woman on the dance floor.
We cut this song durring a session at Merit Studio
in Nashville. Gary Buck, My producer just knew that this
song had to be first on the album.
Lyrics
That Two Step
Darin Crisman c1998
Verse 1
Me and my buddies thought that we had it made,
Working' hard for a union wage,
Cool bachelor pad, had quite a time,
at settling down is where we'd draw the line
Free men no woman could ever cage.
But then a dance hall opened up just north of town,
Connies kicking' country club, the joint was jumping' all the time,
We'd just stepped in to check out the sights
ended up dance floor most the night
With the one woman I was meant to find.
Chorus
That two step, oh that two step, that two step took me one step over the line.
I couldn't run, I couldn't hide, guess it was just a matter of time,
Until that two step took me one step over the line.
Verse 2
When I was coming home it was about a quarter till two,
My buddies were waiting up to give trouble to you know who,
they said, you followed her like a puppy dog,
and you've done broke our unwritten law
I said, sorry fellas what was I going to do,
Chorus
When That two step, oh that two step, that two step took me one step over the line.
I couldn't run, I couldn't hide, guess it was just a matter of time,
Until that two step took me one step over the line.
Verse 3
Now my me and my two step sweetheart have settled down,
when we are cuttin' a rug at the country club I see my buddies hanging around,
I know some day they going to find the girl who will make them cross the line
She'll be trading those blue jeans for a wedding gown.
