Story Behind the Song
Written in half an hour in the fall of 1995...
Simple things can sometimes make you feel very
alone in this world...
Recorded with the full band for "Life/Death" in 1997.
This unreleased acoustic version was recorded live at Ridgeway's
in Clemson, SC on May 6, 1999. Special thanks to Niel Brooks.
Lyrics
Half Moon
Tell me
You gotta go and so you're leaving me alone like all the rest
When I needed you
You packed up all your bags and took a train out west
And there's fire in the heavens
But I can't tell if God is happy or hurt
He's just like me I guess
Looking for a flower under all this dirt
And it's the losing of one thing
Holding hands out in harmony
And I'm looking for something
But I lost it inside of me
Some nights
I feel like jumping off the world to see how far I'll fall
And no words
That you could say could mean anything to me at all
No I did not expect you to care
But somehow I thought you'd always be there
With the night shining through your room
And one candle to hold back the gloom
And it's the nature of nothing
And the science of anything
Try to hold onto something
As you let go of everything
And there's a half moon under a whole sky
And I'm so tired I wanna lay down and die
I wanna be a star in a young girl's eye
I'm a half moon in a whole sky
