Story Behind the Song
War is bad -unless it is your side taking some military action for some "good cause." This song is about a lot of things - personal awakening, the dangers of hubris, and the realization that there are actual people on the other end of that firepower.
Lyrics
Katarina's Tears
copyright 2000 Vince Schiela
Cold day- and a freezing night
Another ruin of a city - the middle of another fight
Another god-foresaken country
Won't these people ever learn
But is it up to us to make it right?
Her name was Katarina, not more than just a child
I offered her my chocolates, but she never even smiled
No mama? "No"
No papa? "No"
No family, so alone
Three years of bombs can take away a home.
(Chorus)
And all those wicked years were there, in Katarina's tears
And like winters bitter wind, they took my breath away
She said, What makes you think you're so right,
That you can fire your guns on my city tonight?
Maybe you should all just say goodbye.
And the lights went out.
And Katarina cried.
I'm the man who knows hes been the fool.
I'm that fool who thinks he was being a man.
I'm that April snow that's gone before you know.
Cause three years of bombs, I've learned
Can take away a home
(Chorus)
And all those wicked years were there, in Katarina's tears
And like winter's bitter wind, they took my breath away.
She said, What makes you think you're so right,
That you can rain your bombs on my city tonight?
Maybe we should all just say goodbye.
And I knew she was right
There was no need to fight
And I saw the light
When Katarina cried
