Acoustic version of DÜF's "Stepping into the Sun" as performed by frontman Mike. |

Story Behind the Song
Stepping into the Sun is mainly a song about change. Getting passed something and coming back out. Personal growth, I guess. A lot of my songs have an objective feel to them, like I'm trying to go for a given mood. Sun seems to be blissfully neutral. Although I think the guitar in this sounds a whole lot better electric and flangerized, and the song is overall better with accompaniment, this acoustic version does have an air of innocence and simplicity to it. With the lyrics, I really tried for relatively abstract thought patterns. My fav line is the 4th verse, "Shadows lie in light unscented, crackling in dawn unrepented." The cliched poet in me loves stupid little symbols like light/dark, warm/cool, etc. This was my first epic, and it runs about 5:30, which seemed so much longer at the time. I've been told it drags on, but I think it just runs its course in a natural flow. Then again, I'm a little biased. I suppose this whole "song story" thing is a waste. Well, whether you hate the song or love it, give us some feedback. DÜF thanks you for your precious time.
