A fast ballad about a bunch of Mediterranean pirates. I wouldn't even know what the Spanish name for this music is, but I would suspect it's a Flamengo. I'll correct this when I find out for sure. |

Story Behind the Song
Man...these sub-genres are giving me such a headache. When I lived in Greece there were only two genres, "ours" and "foreign". I was obviously under "foreign" hehe... So is this song.
Incidentally, this was the original "Bohaliland Blues" song. It gave me and Graeme the idea for the record company's name.
Lyrics
With no land in the horizon
We were playing cards on the deck
With a Spaniard called Jose
Who had joined the crew in Brighton
Said he was Catalan in fact
God knows how he got on board with all us rats
We had drunk up all the loot
In some tavern in Valetta
I'd exchanged mine for a flute
Which I gave to a pretty girl much later
Her skin was darker than Yusuf's
We all thought she was a queen
Queen of the Blue Sea...
The Phoenician sun was hot
"it's a Chinese water torture"
Said the soldier, private Hughes,
But he knew Spain would be nothing like the brochure
"Life is sweet" I told him,
"Just like a cup of tea".
"Yeah, sure mate, the way YOU have it but not me!"
But anyway, then the water ran out
Then it started pouring in
Then the winds blew off the mast
And then it was calm again;
Till we're stranded in Bohalia
Sent a message in a bottle
-it's the sort of thing you do-
and then, when the Ostria blew
We sailed off to wherever it might take us
...or break us.
We had drunk up all the loot
In some tavern in Valetta
I'd exchanged mine for a flute
Which I gave to a pretty girl much later
Yes, we all thought she was a queen
The Queen of the Blue Sea.
...
On night, the Spaniard mutinied
And to the dungeons he was led
He was arguing with his parrot
Over who would have the last crumbs of bread
When the captain said:
"Next water-stop in Bristol"
And the sky was getting dark
So he drew out his pistol
And pointed it at his wet heart
Next dawn we fed him to the sharks.
We had drunk up all the loot
In some tavern in Valetta
I'd exchanged mine for a fiddle
Which I gave to a crippled man much later
In some crowded pub in Bristol
Got some water and a pistol
Roamed off searching for Janine,
Ended up in a Swiss monastery...
...
I heard Hughes is now "Mr.Hughes"
He's the owner of the Moulen Rouge
And Yusuf got married to a queen
The Queen of the Blue Sea...
