Lyrics
Then Came the Cold Rains
When hearts of men became as hard as winter nights,
there were things needed to be done.
Peoples faces had shut down
as they felt the cold air come.
In windows there are seen the soft and subtle signs,
the world moves inside for a while.
Warm light glowing through the glass,
of this quiet domicile.
Then came the cold rains . . .
The Autumn ground was hard as stone and filled with ice.
With the harvest done, it would be months now,
until the children played in the fields.
(The) blackbird perches on the plow. . .
Echoes of the songs wed sing hang in the air.
They find a fertile place with us,
both within our hearts and minds,
like something we had left behind . . .
Then came the cold rains,
When the leaves all disappeared.
As the wind tore at them one by one,
like the dreams that we hold dear.
Then came the cold rains,
When the skies fell to the ground . . .
We buried spirits in the fallow fields.
Where rains can wash away the dreams,
that so long ago seemed real.
But nothings ever as it seems . . .
Put a log on the fire my love,
and we rest then up above,
where we can watch the greying storm,
and know our dreams arent taking any form
Then came the cold rains,
When the leaves all disappeared.
As the wind tore at them one by one,
like the dreams that we hold dear.
Then came the cold rains,
When the skies fell to the ground . . .
