Story Behind the Song
A weekend in Santon Bridge, Cumbria was the inspiration for this song: Meteors in the sky, unlikely romance blossoming, strange creatures stalking the darkened fells (and getting thrown out of pubs)...
Lyrics
The night sky is the interface
Betweeen the dreaming universe,
And the human race.
In the time of Leonids, strange creatures walk the Earth.
Beyond your frosty balcony, there lie the starlit fells.
As mist rolls in from the darkened heights, you think of stories that they tell.
In the time of Leonids, Tommy-boy was quite overcome.
Influenced by the Leonids, he was taken by a girl to a special place.
"Because you're out of it" she said, "there is no way you can escape."
Like meteors from the stars, 'cos that is what they are;
The Leonids cross the northern sky at night...
In the time of Leonids, strange creatures walk the Earth.
Beyond your frosty balcony there lie the starlit fells.
As mist rolls in from the darkened heights, you think of stories that they tell.
In the time of Leonids, a red-haired monster will appear.
In the fellside villages, the local people live in fear.
The legend tells of hostelries that have been terrorised.
This creature batters down the door and staggering in it cries:
"You're not enhancing my enjoyment of this evening!"
Like meteors from the stars, 'cos that is what they are;
The Leonids cross the northern skies at night. x2
The night sky is the interface
Betweeen the dreaming universe
and the human race.
