Story Behind the Song
It was 3 am, after I had played a show at the
old Coney Island High in NYC...nothing much
was going on, so I went back to my room at the
St. Mark's Hotel across the street. If you've
ever been to the St. Mark's, you know where
this song is coming from! Back in the 70's, it
was the biggest needle joint you've ever
seen...it's a little tamer now, but you still
see some real characters around. I had nothing
better to do, so I grabbed my Les Paul guitar
and started singin about what was all around
me.
This version was recorded during the sessions
for the 'Temptress' CD that never came out...
it took only an hour or two for the basic
tracks, then another few hours for the guitar
solo overdubs, vocals and such. To be honest,
I wasn't crazy about our producer's mix of the
song here, but it still kicks ass! No one
could ruin it! Well maybe if Creed or Korn
was singing it, they could.... ha ha ;)
Lyrics
Theres stains on the sheets
and there aint no cable TV
no pictures on the wall
and theres no damn bible to read
the window looks out
onto one, two, three brick walls
the phone might work if a hooker doesnt call
the sluts on First street pass on by
their special skills can make you die
the living dead are here and now
down in MOTEL HELL
got a call from my baby
and she asked if Id come home
I said there aint no way
and I slammed down the phone
all she wanted me for
was my graciousness and charm
my pretty little honey
who was corn fed on the farm
Im a busy guy, I aint got time
for lovey dovey lemon- lime
I hear the neighbors getting loud
down in MOTEL HELL
well the morning came
and she showed up at my door
she said shag me baby
and threw me on the floor
I got her in and out, missionary, 69
she was moanin and groanin
but the pleasure was all mine
I thought I might try going home
I figured out Im best alone
forget that stuff that I once vowed
down in MOTEL HELL
