Story Behind the Song
This song was written after I saw a TV show about people who were in jail for 20 years and then found to be wrongfully accused. I kind of put myself in their shoes and thought about how powerless and angry you would have to feel if it happened to you.
Lyrics
Verse 1:
Why does the innocent man, serve the time for the one who walks free
Why does the innocent man, not reveal the truth about the true enemy
Why must the guilty man, make others pay for the sins he has done
Why must the guilty man, make the true hero live by the gun
Pre Chorus:
(whispered)
Innocence, Innocence, Innocence, Innocence
Chorus:
We allow this hate, allow this wrong
The guilty go free and the good die alone
Innocence is lost, never to be found
Justice must be heard, not be drowned
Verse 2:
Why does the truthful man, pay the price for the sinners of before
Why does the truthful man, get rejected and tortured ever more
Why must the ruthless man, take away what we believe in
Why must the ruthless man, hide his secrets and keep them within
Verse 3:
Why does the righteous man, repent for sins which were never his
Why does the righteous man, age in prison for refusing to give
Why must the immoral man, live the life not intended for him
Why must the immoral man, not have to lose but instead gets to win
