Story Behind the Song
Part of the concept album "Lost In Love" Each track is also a chapter of the short story "Lost in Love"
Here is chapter 6
6. Yellow Cab
When Layla awoke, she immediately knew she was alone. The sun just was on the horizon, but it was still warm. She got dressed slowly. She was still filled with the afterglow of the love she had experienced. "These criminals that try to pull us apart, body and soul, so that they can later sell us back little portions of their version of happiness," she thought and remembered her purpose.
What had the CYBEAR said, before it was cut off by Billy G.: "You have been chosen to save Love"!
She looked to the horizon again, and went back up the dune. On the other side of the dunes it was already quite dark. Next to the beach a big yellow taxi was waiting with the motor running. The driver was leaning on the open door and smoking a cigarette. When he saw Layla he waved her closer. "Taxi, ma'm?" he asked and grinned. He looked good-natured and good music was playing in the taxi - two reasons that compelled Layla to get in. A third was that night had descended, and she was afraid to be out here alone. What looked like a common taxi from the outside was a rolling nightclub on the inside, almost like the crazy taxi in Aspen she had once seen on TV. But this driver was black - very black. "I'll take you there, ma'm," he said. Instead of the setting the meter, he popped in a new CD, and since the music masked the noise of the engine, she glided noiselessly through the night. The piece that played had slow drumbeats, and the bassline massaged her lower body, reminding her again of the afternoon's adventures. They drove through the outskirts of town, where
ragged figures stood around open fires smoking and drinking. She never asked where they were going. She already understood that in this world there were different rules than in the one she knew.
They stopped in a forlorn part of town in front of a large building that certainly had been beautiful when it was new. "You have to get out here, ma'm. My name is George. Call me whenever you need a taxi," the driver told her. "Go on in now, quickly! This is not a good neighborhood!" He had already punched the gas, and Layla rushed out of the car. The taxi made a u-turn, honked once and disappeared into the night.
