    Story Behind the Song
Josh and I lived in an apartment with 13 people! One day all hell was breaking loose, so I went out the porch with my guitar and my dog Teddy just to escape for a while. Rilee came out and sat down, pulled out a cigarette and began to smoke. She took a long drag and said "Y'know things don't have to be the way they are..." That's all she said.

    Lyrics
Two streets down and two streets over
    Looking over my shoulder
At seven months of smoke and noise
Two or three girls and eight or nine boys
And I could only stay so long before I had to go
And its not so far away
Or long ago but now it's changed somehow
    And nothing is the same

Two steps back for two steps forward
    And I could never ignore
    What I think I want
    I know I lack
On the right train and on the wrong track
And I can only wait so long before I start to fall
    And it never goes away
And in so many ways I spend my days
    just chasing my mistakes

    CHORUS:
    Breathe now breathe out
    And who'd have ever thought
It would take us so long to get so far
And through her cloud of nicotine
Teddy and me hear Rilee Jean say
Things don't have to be the way they are

Two years gone and two years later
We thought we'd find something greater
But every time we turn around
we find what we've already found
So how much looking is too much
    How much is not enough

    Cause I get so defeated
    And I get so alone
    And nothing comes and
    Nothing goes
    And nothing's all I know...
