Story Behind the Song
The song was inspired by the southwestern Pueblo Indian custom of calling the February full moon, "the Snow Moon, the Hungry Moon, the Frightened Coyote Moon."
Lyrics
Theres a full moon shining through my window
On this cold February night
The time of old is melted gold
The time of new not yet in view
And my heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And its the snow moon, the hungry moon, the frightened coyote moon
The reindeer hides just like you and me
On this cold February night
Are you listening to me, Listen carefully
Im saying it clear cause I want you to hear
My heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And its the snow moon, the hungry moon, the frightened coyote moon
Well they named this moon a long time ago
On some cold February night
Eternal change Itll wax and wane
Ocean waves carve out ancient caves
And my heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And its the snow moon, the hungry moon, the frightened coyote moon.
