Story Behind the Song
I have several friends who are talented soprano's. I try to incorporate them into my performances and compositions as best I can. This piece was written for a concert I gave at the Arlington Heights Library for a series they produce. It was a rainy, cold November day and Marta was nine months pregnant. The performance went well and I decided to include this work on the Vocalnetics CD.
Lyrics
(English translation)
What God does that is rightly done;
His will is ever just.
I will clinge to him in silence.
He is my God, who in distress,
knows well how to support me;
So no one but him shall guide me.
Shrink not away, despairing soul.
True, my faint heart feels
terror,worry,and pain.
Where will my body find its rest?
Who then will take my soul
and from its binding yoke of sin
let it be freed and loosened?
My goods will be dispersed,
and wither will my loved ones in their sorrow
be scattered and driven?
Lo, the covenant of Eternity remains
the touchstone of my faith.
It speaks with assurance in death and life;
God is my light, I will devote myself to Him
And even if each day bring with its own torment, the pain that we endure shall pass,
and when we have done with weeping,
at the last hour salvation comes,
When God's abiding love shines forth.
