Story Behind the Song
I was inspired to write this song by listening to a Notre Dame Dance group called the First Class Steppers. Sitting in my room in Fisher Hall, I could hear their rehearsal in the basement through my vent. They would make a lot of noise dancing around and then abruptly stop and all say "What!" And so the song was born. The song went on to become the signuature piece for our good friend and chief of security, Darrell Campbell, who was always called up to sing it at our performances. I began the recording process by enlisting the help of our drummer Charles Giefer to come up with some initial drum tracks. Next I added a bit to the drums and layed down the bass and guitar tracks. I finsihed recording the song with Darrell on the lead vocal and some background "whats" from Josh Rynne, Charles Giefer, and myself.
