	Inspired by the events which unfolded on the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine between the Federation and the Dominion. Musically, the piece traces an arc across several episodes, beginning with the Dominion invasion on DS9 which cuts short several budding romances on board. During the occupation, several rebels attempt to sabotage the station's weapons as the Federation fleet mounts an all-out offensive to retake the station and win back the quadrant. The furious climactic battle sequence, which represents the 'Defiant' weaving in and out of the enemy lines, is one of my favourite compositional moments. (2001)

	Story Behind the Song In this piece I tried to capture the 'essence' of Star Trek while building on certain areas, particularly in the tempestuous action sequences. This piece is also markedly different from my earlier compositions in that there is an increased amount of chromaticism and rhythmic vitality in the action parts, and subtle ambiance in the quieter moments. Brief homages to Dennis McCarthy, David Bell, Jay Chattaway, Jerry Goldsmith, and of course, Alexander Courage, can be heard in this piece.
