Just a few years before Santana broke out of the San Francisco music scene, Boogaloo (from the Spanglish "Bugalu") tunes were coming out of New York City, burning up the charts and going gold nationwide. Songs like "I Like Like That", "Boogaloo Blues", "Bang Bang" were fusing Latin Rhythms and Blues progressions.
