    Story Behind the Song
    A Boogaloo in the tradition of Joe Cuba, Johnny Colon, Joe Bataan and many others. Boogaloo was born in New York City (it's the original Latin Crossover style). Just a few years before Santana broke out of the San Francisco music scene, Boogaloo (from the Spanglish "Bugalu") tunes were coming out of New York City, burning up the charts and going gold nationwide. Songs like "I Like Like That", "Boogaloo Blues", "Bang Bang" were fusing Latin Rhythms and Blues progressions. Boogaloos like these have been a staple of Last Tribe NYC's musical repertoire and they inspired Jason to write this original. The time is right for a Boogaloo Renaissance!

    Lyrics
    THE BALLAD OF BOOGALOO JOE BY JASON ROSEN & LAST TRIBE NYC

    THIS IS THE STORY OF THE COOLEST CAT I KNOW.
    HE LIVES UPTOWN AND MOVES TO A GROOVE ALL HIS OWN. THIS ONES FOR BOOGALOO JOE...

    HE MOVES UP THE STREET TO A FUNKY LATIN BEAT
    GOT HIS VINES HANGING RIGHT, THIS MAN IS LOOKING OUT OF SIGHT

    HE'S GOT A GUAYABERA SHIRT, HE'S GOT A PANAMA HAT
    EVERYBODY KNOWS HE'S THE COOLEST DUDE ON 116TH STREET

    ALWAYS GOOD TO GO, ALWAYS IN THE KNOW
    HE'S BOOGALOO JOE (2x)

    TO THE LADIES, HE'S GOT THE TIGHTEST RAP
    ALWAYS TREATS THEM FINE, THEY SAY, "I LIKE IT LIKE THAT!"

    AND WHEN HE GETS 'EM ON THE DANCE FLOOR, HE CAN REALLY MOVE
    MAMBO, SALSA, MERENGUE; THAT MAN IS SO DAMN SMOOTH

    {CHORUS}

    THERE HE IS, THE KING OF EL BARRIO
    AT THE DROP OF DIME, HE'LL PUT ON HIS SHOW
    HE DON'T NEED A DANCE FLOOR, HE DON'T NEED MUSIC
    GOT THE RHYTHM IN HIS HEAD, HE SURE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT

    {CHORUS}
