Story Behind the Song
There is this person I know, and we don't talk that often, but I know he's been through a lot. One night when I was talking to him it just struck me how sad and hurt he really was, and I wondered why I hadn't seen this before. I started to question whether I had been paying enough attention to people when they are talking everyday.
So this song is about really listening and hearing what is behind people's words; to be able to "see"; be conscious of what they are feeling, and what they're going through. It was a good reminder for me.
Written in my basement in about 3 hours. This version (acoustic) took about 20 minutes to record.
Lyrics
I See
I see reflections of your pain
in the darkness
And I feel your hands touching me
after you've gone
I wish I would have held you closer,
been kinder
I wish I could make it better
but it's already dawn
Chorus
In your words, I can hear your heart
I can feel your pain, I can see you burning
If I look it's all in your eyes
the sadness and the lies, lonliness and yearning
I see
I see the fear you're hiding
deep in the shadows
Solace escapes your grasp, not unlike me
I wish I could take your pain,
lend you serenity
Still waters sometimes hide the deepest misery
Chorus
So I tell you everything will get better
a pale moom moves accross the sky
I would hold you, would you let me
silently I watch; you close your eyes
and I see
I see, don't you see?
With my words, I could heal your heart,
I could ease your pain,
I could stop that burning
if you look deep into my eyes
you will find no lies
you'll find that same yearning,
you'll see
You'll see, I see
