Story Behind the Song
This song, like so many of ours, is a metaphor. The visual image of light shining on a sphere, creating a gradual shading from light to dark at the horizon, seemed like a wonderful way to describe the differences bewteen differing philosophies. People are so different, but so very similar. The song itself was an excercise in precision. I had previously not recorded such long uninterupted takes of both guitar and bass. It was challenging, but also that much more rewarding. One of the main goals in The Mosaic Virus' songs is to tie together an idea with every aspect of a song; lyrics, melody, structure, etc. Everything Up & Down is definately in the top ten on the list for this 'song unity'. Possibly, only 'Signing the Scripture'(see our web page) has a more clear and unified song definition. I truely love this mood. Enjoy. - Jason Pristash
Lyrics
Well, since you've sought me
Here is my argument
Decked out like dissidents
With nothing to fear
The surface of a sphere does not appear
Connected to the questions
That have brought you here
But please note with one side
You cannot divide
Even the great sun itself must realize
You cannot point to the ending edge of light
You cannot point to the start of the dark
It's degrees of grey
And nothing's quite so different
That it's not one step away
You see we're all the same shade
Don't it seem so logical
That not everything is reasonable
Not everything is something understood
If you could only take
A vague approximating minute
To search the surface of a world
And know you're not quite in it
You would begin to understand
On the surface of a sphere
Light falls around EVERYTHING UP & DOWN
Don't you forget what you're walking on
