Syndrome's first song, "Oblivion" is a showcase of the heavier, darker side of the band. This meditation on hopelessness has drawn comparisons to Metallica.

    Story Behind the Song
We had been playing mostly cover songs for the first few months the band was together, until I started missing around with what would become the riff to Oblivion. The lyrics were really just my attempt to get out some of the nihilism that had been dominating my songwriting. This version of the song was recorded during some free studio time that the band won in a local talent competition. Guitar, Bass, and vocals are all first-take.

    Lyrics
    I don’t know where I can begin
To make amends for all these sins
I don’t even know where to start
To replace the soul you’ve torn apart

So in my pain I find release
And in my pain I find new peace
I find the answers, I find the cure
I find the fear that keeps me pure

    Chorus
So now I’ll pay the final cost
Because I know that I am lost
As I fall into the sun
    Lost in this Oblivion

I know that you can’t set me free
And I am all that I’ll ever be
‘Cause in the end my fall from grace
    Was everything I couldn’t face
