This is a pop-punk song about girls! More specifically, it's about trying to impress a girl at a party.
CD: Girls are Shitty E.P.   Label: Self Released
Credits: Written by Jim Lian and Eric Nelson

    Story Behind the Song
The motivation for this song was a girl I met about a year ago. I was really into her, and we had hung out a few times...but I was afraid to tell her how I felt about her, because I thought I might scare her away. So I didn't say anything and eventually...she faded away. The whole situation just made me realize that it is totally ridiculous to hold back or to try and be something you're not with a girl you really care about. So I wrote this song about it. Eric wrote the music before he joined the band, and for while it was an instrumental we'd play in practice. A while later, i went on a trip to San Diego, and wrote this song in about an hour. When I came back home (Minnesota), we put the lyrics and music together...and we were really happy with the way it came out. We've only recorded the song once, a year ago (yes, that is this recording), it took two days and we layed down three tracks which eventually became the "Girls are Shitty" E.P. The recording isn't great, and I think that we are all a lot better at our instruments now.....but i just thought it'd be cool to get some songs on-line. We plan on recording this song, as well as several new tracks sometime in the near future.

    Lyrics
Who do I have to Be?

Standing at a party with a,
    Drink in my hand,
The feeling that I'm having well I,
    Just can't understand,

To see a girl like you,
    It doesn't happen everyday,
I knew I had to meet you,
I just had to find a way (so tell me),

What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?
I've got to find a way,
    For you to notice me,
How can I talk to you?
How can I make you see?
What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?

I try to find the courage,
    Have another drink or two,
Check my hair in the mirror,
As i think of what to do,

I stand against the wall of life,
    Staring in your direction,
    I think about approaching you,
I think about rejection (tell me),

What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?
I've got to find a way,
    For you to notice me,
How can I talk to you?
How can I make you see?
What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?

    I know what's gonna happen,
    Shit happens just the same,
    I'll spend the night alone,
And there' no one I can blame,

I'll sit there in the corner,
And I'll wonder what to do,
    Instead of taking action girl,
Instead of meeting you (so tell me),

What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?
I've got to find a way,
    For you to notice me,
How can I talk to you?
How can I make you see?
What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?

Standing at a party with a,
    Drink in my hand,
    Acting like a coward,
    Afraid to take a stand,

I never make my fucking move,
    I blow it everytime,
If only I could find a way,
A way to make you mine (so tell me),

What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?
I've got to find a way,
    For you to notice me,
How can I talk to you?
How can I make you see?
What do I have to do?
Who do I have to be?
