Story Behind the Song
This song took on a whole new sound in the recording studio. We started working with a top engineer for our first two songs and this was the third one with him. We were under presure to record this quickly since he had just signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records and was closing his studio to other artist so he could produce his own record for Atlantic. We went through synth sounds quickly until we stumbled on a very moody sound that had us all looking at each other like this is strange but we like it. We recorded the song in about 2 hours and left there thinking it might not be good enough since we were so rushed. We did the mix a week later at Pendulum Studios and left there feeling good about the results.
Lyrics
Hand upon the window,
face is to the glass.
Peering at the morning,
night is gone at last.
Were you ever here at all,
lying close to me?
Do I believe the things you said,
in love and honesty?
Why aren't you here,
you make me whole.
I want you so near,
you touch me to my soul.
Head upon the pillow,
tears so heavy fall.
Lonliness surrounds me,
like shadows on the wall.
Tonight I'll wonder where you are,
in darkness there's no peace.
The words you spoke so tenderly,
locked in my memory.
Why aren't you here,
you make me whole.
I want you so near
you touch me to my soul.
