Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song after an acquaintence OD'd. A few friends of mine were having tumultuos lives at the time (myself included), but there was something enlightening about the tumult and something scary and almost dilusional about the things we considered comfortable. This tune came out of that--in my car--15 minutes before rehearsal 1997.
Lyrics
Grazed into the room with her eyes half-closed
Half-opened the door and she said hello
A good time as any to lose myself in you
Two people walking down a lane,
Same words, different steps
She said, Im drowning, but not low enough
Can you whisper in my ear and nod my
pain to sleep,
Surround me
And ease to the quiet wave come set me free
Draw arms around the darkness
paint the colors that you think are me
And ease through distorted byes
and wonder why
Is your shaking ground more solid now
But, theres another day
Dark noise gets louder and your
eyes are half-closed
Lay it on the line, it needs no hello
A good time as any to lose and find my soul
Always running to calm your fears
You never sit still
Never say no, no words, you never hear
Close your eyes and nod your pain goodbye
Its warm inside
Glide down that flower path and
your eyes are half-closed
Hide behind your veil and say hello
Good time as any to lose myself...
