Story Behind the Song
The Apprentice was always satisfied in his role. The Wizard, truly kind and generous, adopted him at a very early age. He had tutored him in the mystical ways of very powerful and very subtle magic. Yet, despite all that the Wizard had done for him, the Apprentice grew impatient with the ancient figure. Finally, these dark feelings turn to rage - his pride wouldn't allow him to continue living in the shadow of this old fool. He decides to act and challenges the Wizard to a dual to the death.
The two robe clad mystical men fly into the black, wet air of a violent and stormy night. They duel hundreds of feet above the ground summoning the powers of the elements and directing weapons of lightning and fire against each other.
The Apprentice's bloodlust has made him strong. He hurls three mighty bolts at the Wizard and the crippled and defeated old man drops from the sky to his death. The Apprentice descends to Earth and stares at his former master lying lifeless in the dirt with the rain falling all around. After a moment, the Apprentice crumbles to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. He screams at the universe, "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" - but there is no reply.
Yet, from beyond, the Wizard hears his cry and knows that the Apprentice did just what the Wizard had wanted him to do - free him from his earthly body and allow him to continue on The Trail to find his destiny.
