Story Behind the Song
Just a story about firin' up your pickup truck and going to town on Friday night to pick up your best girl.
The idea for the song comes from when I was on the road playing clubs in the Midwest.
It was nothing for people to drive 60 miles into town on the weekend.
One night I was watching the people in the audience wondering about their lives. I saw one young couple that was obviously having a great time with the band and with each other.
I just got a picture in my mind of him rushin' over to her house to pick her up(on the weekend). "Hey now it's the weekend" :)))
By the way, I had a '51 Ford pickup when I was in high school.
The basic song came real quick. It took me just a couple of settings.
There's not much to do in hotel rooms.
But it took me years to start recording it. More than I want to think about.
Recording took me a couple of months in my home studio.
I used my old '65 Strat, a red sunburst birds eye maple Les Paul, and a P Base.
The structure changed quite a bit while recording.
I wanted to try something a little different than the usual "verse verse chorus verse" structure.
I am still learning to use the new recording equipment, so the quality of the recording is no where near where I want it. I am going to do it over as soon as I can.
Thanks for asking,
JE
