    Story Behind the Song

We've all known the kind of person the girl in this song is, the kind that uses us and then tosses us aside for the next unlucky soul.
Writing the Song: I was listening to a lot of Dwight Yoakam and The Mavericks when I wrote this song. The guitar solo was a part of the song from the beginning - I can't imagine the song without it!

    Lyrics
    River of Fools

I should have seen it coming for a long time
But this heart of mine is easy to deceive
And even though she told me that she's not mine
Part of me refuses to believe

River of Fools I'm drowning in your flow
Although I try to let her go
    I can't fight the undertow
I'm not so strong I can swim against the tide
I'll never reach the other side
    River of fools

I tell myself I'm better off without her
And that I'll find a new love any day
But all I seem to do is think about her
And wonder why she ever went away

    chorus

By now she's gone and found herself a new man
And he will do the things she tells him to
But she will only lead him through the soft sand
And leave him by the river of fools

    chorus
