Your best friend won't return your calls since his company went public? Significant other left you for someone with a better car? Is your band creating perfect pop gems in utter obscurity? Take heart: there's more to life than limousines and velvet ropes. [This demo version is from a recent rehearsal; we'll be hitting the studio soon to record it "for real."]
Credits: Vocals and Rhythm Guitar: Devon Copley, Lead Guitar: Thom Loubet, Drums: Joe Costello, Bass: Neil Trembath

    Story Behind the Song
Living in New York City brings you face to face with obscene wealth and ridiculous "hipper-than-thou" attitudes. You've got to figure out a way to deal with it or you'll drive yourself crazy with greed and self-loathing. This is how I dealt.

    Lyrics
I know there’s people who never lost a game
never felt the fear of failure, knew the sting of shame
I think those people live way above my head
with a view of Jersey from the bed
now I see them in their limousines –
    I can’t help wondering, I turn a little green
just thinking that when all is said and done
do the wealthy have more fun?

me, I know I’m no VIP
me, I know I’m no VIP
and there’s no need to call security
when I leave I’m leaving quietly
    cause I’m no VIP

I don’t have any frame of reference for soho
there’s only three celebrities in Buffalo
but now I’m curious so I dress up in black
and I sneak in the back
velvet ropes and third-rate soap stars
attitude on tap at the martini bar
all the people you couldn’t stand in school
    and their designer cool

and there’s no need to call security
when I leave I’m leaving quietly
    cause I’m no VIP

    it’s just an S.O.S. from an S.O.B.
who can’t tell fame from notoriety
    he says:
gimme a V, gimme an I, so I won’t be just a worthless little pea
