Story Behind the Song
After having lost the Battle of Kinsale, many Irish fled to Spain in exile. The melancholy part of the song reflects how the Irishman might of felt in this foreign land. The Spaniards had assisted the Irish in battle, so there was a friendship there, however the Irishman still longs for his homeland. Eventually he meets a lovely Spanish lady and his tune changes...to a major key, as you can hear in the bridge of the song. We wrote this piece in 3/4 timeso the couple could waltz happily ever after.
