Inspired by the late spiritualist speaker, Henri Nouwen, Broken Glass can tear you down and build you back up again through it's slow but powerful music and lyrics. The song features exerpts from Henri Nouwen's "Healing The Broken Body" as well as a fretless bass, deep hollowbody guitar, and a very stylized drum part. |

Story Behind the Song
Broken Glass was inspired by the late spiritualist speaker, Henri Nouwen, and particularly a part in "Healing the Broken Body". Nouwen's words, "I never knew that broken glass could shine so brightly" echoed through my head almost every day after I had first him speak them. I have heard many expressions and parables to aid mankind in answering the question, "Why do bad things happen to good people," but Nouwen's speech seemed to move me the most as well as seem the most simple and logical. When writing the song, I intended to relocate a recording of his exact words to use at the very end of the song. While overdubbing the background vocals for the song, I realized that by adding more exerpts from his speech, I could provide the listener with a much richer interpretation which would avoid confusion regarding some of the references in my lyrics. To me, the song was always the pinnacle of my works, but as soon as the other members in the band had heard the finished product, they both acclaimed it as definately one of the best tracks on the album. I couldn't have expected it to turn out better.
